1 held for lifting valuables from marriage halls
The Chrompet police arrested a 37-year-old man for stealing 35 sovereigns of gold and cell phone from a marriage hall in the area. Police seized 41.5 sovereigns of gold jewels from the accused late on Saturday.

The police were on the look-out for the culprit who decamped with 35 sovereigns of gold and cell phone from the Balaji Marriage Hall in Chrompet on February 1. R Narasimhan, a resident of Saraswathi Nagar, Selaiyur lodged a complaint that the jewels and cell phone were that of his daughter whose marriage reception was on while the valuables went missing.
Police took the help of the CCTV footage recorded in the marriage hall and located the accused near Tambaram bus stand on Saturday and nabbed him. They identified the culprit as K Sasikumar, a native of Kuttaimedu in Vellore district.
Police also found out that he had lifted jewels from another marriage hall in Chrompet last year. They recovered 41.5 sovereigns of gold jewels from him. The accused was remanded to judicial custody.
