Man surrenders with machete after hacking friend to death in Avadi

In an incident reminiscent of a movie scene, a man hacked his friend to death for speaking ill about his wife while having drinks and surrendered at the police station with a blood dripping machete at Avadi.

Police said Murthy (38), a resident of Nandhavanamettur, near Avadi and his long-time friend Pandian (35), also hailing from the area were having drinks near Avadi railway overbridge on Monday night. 

After a while, Pandian allegedly started talking ill about Murthy’s wife Mary. The duo got into an argument. The verbal duel soon turned physical. Pandian beat Murthy up and sent him away. An insulted Murthy went to his house and returned to the spot with a machete. He saw an intoxicated Pandian lying on the bridge and hacked him repeatedly. After ensuring that he was dead, Murthy went straight to the police station with the blood-dripping machete and surrendered.  Police registered a case and later remanded him to judicial custody.

Migrant labour arrested for murdering colleague 

The Kodungaiyur police on Monday arrested a migrant labourer for murdering his colleague, also a migrant labourer in a drunken brawl at Muthamizh Nagar in Kodungaiyur. Police said D P Ragesh (23), a native of Bihar was working in a plastic material production company at Muthamizh Nagar for the last eight years. 

Recently, Devanand Kumar (26), also hailing from Bihar joined the firm. All the workers were staying at a facility provided inside the company compound itself, police said. On Monday, the two got into an argument while having drinks. At one point, Ragesh picked up the liquor bottle and hit Devanand on his head killing him on the spot. On information, the Kodungaiyur police rushed to the spot and arrested Ragesh.
