Stressing on the need to be cautious to elect a good representative they urged the voters to avoid corrupt politicians and independents.

“It is not our intention to force voters to press the NOTA button on the EVMs. Our campaign has nothing to do with any political party. But, we are creating an awareness among the voters about the purpose of the NOTA to reject bad candidates. Further, we are also advising the voters not to boycott the poll at any cost,” said A Murali, a campaigner for the NOTA. He added that many voters were not aware of NOTA option and they explained about it.

The team also advised the voters to check the background of each candidate and cast their votes. “People are aware of the issues in the constituency and the candidates. Further, the voters told us that they have been watching every movement and activities of each candidate,” said another volunteer.

The team also distributed handbills that contained awareness messages on NOTA.

“It is also expected that the RK Nagar, where 62 candidates are in the fray will record considerable number of votes on NOTA too. It will be a go to option for many as none of the political parties’ candidates nor the independents spoke for the development of the constituency,” said a resident of Tondaiyarpet.

The team members said that they would conclude their campaign on Sunday.

It may be noted that the Supreme Court in 2013 upheld the right of voters to reject all candidates contesting an election and stated that such system will pave the way for cleaning the political system.
