According to Sneha, a suicide prevention helpline, there has been a 30 % rise in transactions through e-mails. Most of the students have reported stress over the numerous exams they would have to write. A majority of them are especially worried about NEET.
“One student wrote to us that earlier it was all about giving the best performance in one examination alone. Now, because of a number of entrance tests, it seems we have to write examinations for three months continuously and there is no time to relax. With hardly any time gap between the board and entrance exams, students are not confident about their preparations,” said Dr Lakshmi Vijayakumar - Founder Trustee of Sneha.
“Students, who have studied under the State board, are not sure about their performance in the entrance examinations as most of them are designed based on the CBSE syllabus.”
“I did not have much time to prepare for NEET. I am from the state board and not confident of getting through in it. What’s the point of being a rank holder if it does not help me get a seat,” asked K Sailakshmi, a city student.
K Vijaylakshmi, a teacher at Karnataka Sangha HSS, said, “We advise students not to get upset if they failed to score well. If they fail, there is another chance within a month and moreover, there is a college for everyone and they need not worry about the future.”
