MTC buses to use Vadapalani flyover
In an attempt to ease the flow of traffic at the Vadapalani junction, the Chennai city traffic police are said to have proposed a plan, under which MTC buses will be allowed to use the newly-built flyover instead of the service roads on either side from Wednesday.

Additional Traffic Commissioner Abhay Kumar Singh and other officials are understood to have devised the new changes on the insistence of City Commissioner of Police Karan Singha.
As per the new traffic plan, the MTC buses passing by Vadapalani on the 100-ft Jawaharlal Nehru Salai must take the flyover at the Vadapalani junction and the bus stops on both sides will be shifted from their present places. In the second phase, the right turn under the flyover will be blocked from all four sides.
Additional Commissioner of Traffic Abhay Kumar Singh told DTNext that the first plan will come into force from Wednesday and the police have already given directions to the transport department to shift the bus stops. “We will see how this helps the vehicular movement on Arcot Road and reduces congestion at the junction. We need more time to implement the second phase as we need to analyse the feasibility of allowing U-turn for more vehicles on the 100 ft road,” he added. A local police source said that a few local elements are opposing to the shifting of bus stops from their current location, though the traffic police had been mulling on the idea for long.
The police have also asked a private mall on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai to convert the open space in the front as service lane to allow vehicles arriving at the mall.
