The DRI sleuths intercepted two Colombo-bound passengers at Chennai airport and recovered the package, concealed inside their baggage. DRI, so far, has not revealed the names of the persons, one hailing from Chennai and another one hailing from Devakottai in Sivaganga district. DRI sources intercepted the passengers after getting a clear tip off regarding the contraband smuggling through Chennai airport to Sri Lanka.

Sources said it was graded down quality of heroin smuggled in to the country from Afganisthan and brought to Chennai via road. The drug cartel that smuggles heroin from Indian to Sri Lanka has been mostly using the sea route. However, they also continue to smuggle smaller quantities through Chennai airport.
