The Madras High Court wondering as to who killed Sankararaman, if all the accused were acquitted, directed the Puducherry Government pleader to obtain instructions as to why an appeal against the acquittal was not preferred.

A division bench comprising Justice N Kirubakaran and Justice V Parthiban also directed the Government Pleader to get instruction on a writ petition filed regarding the investigation made on the ‘leaked’ conversation that was held between the pontiffs accused in Sankararaman murder case and the Judge who was trying the case.

The plea moved by V Manikandan of Chennai relates to the murder of Sankararaman ,the manager of Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple at Kancheepuram in the year 2004. The Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, and the junior Acharya, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi, were among the 24 accused in the case.

The Bench, which heard the arguments, directed the Government pleader of Puducherry to get instructions by Friday, when the case will be taken up for further hearing.
