The police control room received an alert from the 108 service on Saturday morning after a woman called them up and told them that bombs have been placed at Khushbu’s house. A police team then rushed to the house of the politician to conduct checks. Khushbu was not available at home as she was abroad.
The police team conducted a thorough search at the house with the help of bomb detection and disposal squad and sniffer dogs, but could not find any explosives. Police then traced the phone number from which the call had come to the 108 service and found that the number belonged to one Mariammal (45), a resident of Tirumurthy Hills, Udumalaipet.
Chennai police passed on the information to the Udumalaipet police and she was picked up from her residence. When contacted, V Balakrishnan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mylapore, said the police had acted based on the information passed on to them by 108 ambulance service office.
“There is no official complaint. We followed up on the information provided by 108. The woman is said to be mentally unstable. We are conducting inquiries with her,” Balakrishnan said.
