Little chance of rain in city: Regional Meteorological Centre

According to weathermen, Saturday’s upper air trough from Marathwada to north interior Karnataka extending up to 0.9 km above mean sea level persists. Further, upper air cyclonic circulation over Comorin area (Kanyakumari) and adjoining south Tamil Nadu has become less marked. 

The weathermen also said that The Nilgiris and Coimbatore in the western region were already receiving rains. Areas like Vellore, Thiruthani and Krishnagiri saw heavy rains on Sunday. 

Dr S Balachandran, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, told DTNext that temperature in Chennai region would be considerably low in the next two days and the sky would remain cloudy. “However, coastal districts in the state will receive moderate to heavy rains,” he said adding that they were continuously monitoring satellite imagery. Meanwhile, weather bloggers say that Chennai city would record 35 to 36 degree Celsius till May 12, after which temperature may go up. 

K Srikanth, a city-based weather blogger, said, “There will be no rain in the city for the next one week, as there is no change in the wind pattern. However, interior districts will get rainfall in the coming days.” 

In his blog, Srikanth said, “The active phase of the pre-monsoon thunderstorm season over Peninsular India continues with another very good day estimated by models for south interior Karnataka. The last few days have seen some intense thunderstorms developed by convective heating and the wind convergence under the influence of trough extending from central India.”
