The two-tier parking facility would be the first covered parking infrastructure to be developed at its stations by CMRL, which thus far has only provided open parking spaces in the seven operational stations on Alandur – Koyambedu elevated stretch.
CMRL has invited bids to prepare detailed design consultancy for the proposed parking facility and property development at Shenoy Nagar Park. The tenders would be finalised on June 19.
“It would take at least two months to hold the pre-bid meetings, upload documents and finalise the bids after which we would issue work orders. It is a major work, so it would consume at least two years to complete the project,” a senior CMRL officer told DTNext, putting the capacity of the two-level facility in the range of 900 – 1,200 cars.
The existing open parking spaces have the capacity to accommodate fewer than 100 cars. Though it was a tad too early, CMRL officials said they intend to keep the parking fee (of the proposed facility) at par with open spaces despite relatively high operational cost to increase patronage. “We will factor in all these issues and fix the price before the inauguration of the facility,” the CMRL officer explained.
