Income Tax sleuths raid leading oil brand owner’s house
Sleuths from the Income-Tax department on Wednesday raided the residence and business premises of the owners of Kaleesuwari Refinery Private Limited, makers of a popular brand of cooking oil, on complaints of alleged tax evasion.

The raids were being held in more than 50 places across the southern states, including 46 places in Tamil Nadu.
This included more than 35 localities in Chennai, including its owner’s house at Mylapore area in the city. Hundreds of I-T officials were involved in the raids, according to sources.
The simultaneous raids which began early on Wednesday continued throughout the day where the sleuths are reported to have scanned several documents to check for tax evasion. Sources said the I-T officials were verifying the company’s balance sheet and the receipts and expenditure of the last two to three years. Kaleesuwari Refinery are the makers of popular cooking oil brand.
