Techies held for stealing handbag
In a bizarre case, two IT engineers were arrested by the Teynampet police for stealing a woman’s handbag during a birthday party at a star hotel on TTK Road-Chamiers Road junction on Tuesday.

The accused told the police that they took the bag to access the woman’s contact list on her cellphone. Teynampet police registered a case after J Ramya (29), a resident of Maduravoyal, lodged a complaint alleging that her handbag containing two mobile phones, including an iPhone and Rs 12,000 was stolen on Sunday.
The complainant told the police that she left the handbag on the chair inside the hall to go to the washroom and when she returned, the bag was missing. After a frantic search, she lodged a complaint. The police team accessed the CCTV footage from the hotel and found two well-dressed youth taking the handbag. The police were able to identify the accused with the help of some of the guests.
Police said the accused, M Raghu (30) and R Rajesh (28), both residents of Cosmo city, Puthupakkam, work with an IT company at Siruseri. They told the police that they wanted to get the mobile numbers of the victim and her female friends. However, the police rejected their claims and registered a case.
