Speaking to reporters after visiting the spot, the minister said the owners of Chennai Silks should bear the expenses incurred in dousing the fire.

He also blamed the establishment for the fire saying, “It was their negligence that had brought on the disaster and the government would make them pay the complete cost incurred in taming the blaze.”

He said necessary action would be taken if there was any  violation in building norms and the structural stability of the building would be studied before taking a decision on whether to demolish if it was declared unsafe.

A Corporation official, when questioned, said, “Now, all the departments have come  together to control and put out the fire. If there is a violation, the CMDA or the Corporation will take action.”
