Unrepresented RK Nagar cries for attention

RK Nagar constituency remains headless, as there is not even a single civic representative especially MLA, after the seat fell vacant upon late chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s demise. People said that after the Election Commission announced date for by-poll, many politicians particularly ruling party assured of some schemes and they received water supply properly. 

“More number of metro water tankers were pressed into service during the election campaign, but now, we need to resort to road blockade, as we receive water once in a week only. We were earlier happy that the North Chennai would have more facilities, but things took an ugly turn after the by-election was cancelled. Not even a single elected representative is meeting us now,” said R Kamala Kannan, a resident of New Washermenpet. He lamented that the people of the constituency were finally left in the lurch.

“We are watching all the elected representatives. We want the government to take necessary measures for supplying drinking water without interruption and grievance meetings in the concerned zonal offices should be conducted every week. So, we can air our grievances to the officials,” said K Viswanathan of Tondaiarpet.

Even some time ago, during a heavy outage of power in the whole of north Chennai, the residents had no one to complain for a remedy. “None of the officials heeded our pleas,” said a resident. 

When contacted, a senior corporation official said that they were monitoring the grievances of people belonging to all the zones. KS Kandasamy, Deputy Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), told DTNext, “We have instructed officials from all departments to pay attention to the people’s problems and there are no big issues to attend to in the RK Nagar constituency.”
