Jobless diploma holder ends life in Injambakkam

A diploma holder in electronics and electrical engineering, who had been hunting for a suitable job for the last four years after graduation, killed himself by jumping into a temple pond on Thursday.

Police said Ilayaraja (24), son of Thilak Kumar, a resident of Injambakkam near Neelankarai, killed himself by jumping in to the Gowriamman Temple pond near his house. The public, who saw him drowning in the pond, informed the police. Police and the fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and tried to save Ilayaraja. However, they could only pull him out dead from the pond. Police said Ilayaraja had been depressed after he failed to land a job after finishing his diploma. Ilayaraja had successfully finished a diploma course in Electronics and Electrical Engineering.  

Duo arrested for stealing bike in Rayapuram 

Royapuram police on Thursday arrested two youths on charges of stealing a bike and recovered the stolen bike from them. A police vehicle checking team arrested A Sanjay Kumar (19), a resident of Kasimedu and Sreepanchan alias Japan (21), a resident of Tondiarpet and recovered a Honda Dio vehicle from them. Police said the duo had stolen the bike of I Deenadayalan (27), a resident of New Washermanpet on May 18, when he had parked his bike in front of a marriage hall at Royapuram.
