A photo colour lab-cum-studio at CP Ramasamy Road, Alwarpet, caught fire in the afternoon due to short-circuit and valuables were gutted. Five fire tenders and over 50 personnel from Saidapet, Teynampet, Mylapore, Egmore and Kilpauk fire stations brought the fire under control almost after two hours of fight, said sources.

In another incident at DPI Complex in Nungambakkam, nearly 12 dilapidated vehicles were destroyed in the fire which was sparked by a pile of dry leaves. Fire officials said that someone must have thrown a burning cigarette in the plie of dry leaves. Books worth crores of rupees stocked in the nearby godown would have been burnt had the fire not been doused within hours, DPI sources said.
