“Public transportation is an important department and we want to improve the services provided to the people. We are keen on introducing electric buses,” said the minister. “We approached two leading automobile manufacturing companies for building electric buses. We will float a tender to manufacture the buses and the process will begin soon. The buses will be introduced when we have the road infrastructure to accommodate them,” said a transport department official.

Talking about the development, V Krishnamurthy, Managing Director of Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), said, “We have submitted our technical reports on the trial and the next run will be held soon.” When asked about the number of such buses that the corporation was planning to introduce, the MD said, “It is too early to decide. First, we will monitor the performance of the vehicles during the trial run and then take a call.”
