Graduates opt for start-ups
Instead of opting for multinational companies, graduates who are fresh out of college are choosing start-ups as their first job. These young companies too are approaching campuses for placements and acquiring young talent.

When these young entrepreneurs hire, they look at the passion of the candidates and not merely by the scores or performance in college.
“We approached the alma matter of our co-founder for placements and we hired four candidates. Two of them haven’t finished the course yet and have to settle their arrears. We went ahead and hired them as they were smart and had started coding while they were still in school,” says Sabin Rodriguez, co-founder of BigFday. In fact, they had a unique way of screening the candiates. Instead of doing the usual tests, they gave the candidates a coding challenge. “Out of the 15 candidates who responded, we selected four,” says Sabin, who has even a drop-out in the team. He says, “It is all about the passion for work. When it comes to coding, we can train them accordingly. It is passion that drives them to think out of the box. In fact, we pay freshers more than the industry standards and this makes the start-up deal more attractive”
A fact about the start-up wave is that it is unconventional. Many of the job providers are finding the right candidates by using social media. For instance, Dharaneetharan Durairajan, founder of TelePort360 and Social Eagle says, “I wrote a post on Medium saying, “I am looking for ‘The Eagles’ who are willing to join me in working towards the mission of flying high.” He recalls the response. “A candidate named Ashwin replied saying, ‘Guess what, you found your Garuda, lucky you sir.” on a chat. We caught up and he was hired. We hired him for his attitude and creativity,” says Dharaneetharan.
He also advocates the benefits of starting out in a smaller team. “I joined a multination IT company after I passed out of college. The roles of everybody is set and everyone is expected to follow that. It got boring after a point. In a start-up, people get to see new challenges every day and they can see closely what the other departments do. The sky is the limit as it will give them the perfect space to use their talents
