“We have reached out to students from the neighbouring schools to join the weekend classes that will begin from July first week. We had students this year, who were top scorers in the class but did not pass the NEET exam. There were so many confusions about the medical entrance test.

We did not know till the last minute whether the students from NEET are exempted or not. This didn’t leave students to be prepared for the exams. We want the students to be better prepared next time, so we have started giving the trainings,” says Venkatesh.

The teachers are hoping that the students will be better prepared this year as they will have to write the board exams in class 11 also. “Class 11 is important for understanding the basics of the subjects. Most of the schools earlier had skipped the portions. The new setup will help students strengthen the foundation,” he adds.

Earlier, School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan had announced that every zone will have a centre, where students could come once a week for three hours and prepare for board examinations.

Parents of the aspirants hope this will also include preparations for NEET. Schools too, on the other hand, are collaborating with NEET coaching centres for weekend classes. Students of Kanchi Sri Sankara Matriculation School in Thiruchendur are one of them.

“We have arranged for special classes for both class 11 and 12 students during the weekends. We want professionals to take the classes and make the students better prepared. The students who are interested will have to pay a nominal fee. There are foundation classes arranged for class 10 students for NEET to understand the areas they want to focus on,” says Principal Selvavaishnavi.

Even the Police boys and girls club in many areas are planning to take special classes for entrance examinations. TC Morari Desai says, “We are planning to help the aspirants out with entrance examination from this year onwards.”
