Peer Mohammed, the contractor appointed to demolish the fire-ravaged concrete structure, said that the second vault was retrieved at 15 feet below the ground level from the basement. But unlike the first vault, which had only burnt documents, the second one reportedly contained gold bars.
Sources said that vault was opened at the demolition site itself and the gold bars kept inside were shifted to a different place in about 30 steel cases.
Peer Mohammed said that there was one more vault buried under the debris and would be retrieved in a day or two. He said that the debris would be completely removed in three days and the land would be handed back to Chennai Silks owners.
On May 31, the eight-storey Chennai Silks showroom on Usman Road caught fire and the structure was brought down on June 17.
