According to sources, Mohanasundaram owned a petrol bunk at St Thomas Mount. A portion of the bunk was raised by encroaching upon a piece of land outside his site. Following this, the revenue officials were asked to survey the land of the petrol bunk.

Subsequently, Mohanasundaram approached the revenue officials who demanded a sum of Rs 10 lakh as bribe to settle the issue amicably. Shocked by the demand of the officials, the petrol bunk owner lodged a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption. Acting on this, the DVAC sleuths decided to lay a trap and catch the officials.

Mohanasundaram as instructed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anticorruption, gave the chemicalcoated notes to the trio at the Tambaram RDO office around 9.30 pm on Tuesday. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption personnel, who were lying in wait there, immediately arrested all the three officials. All of them have been remanded in judicial custody.
