Class 12 boy fatally knocked down

A 16-year-old school boy died on his way to school on Tuesday morning, when a truck hit the two-wheeler, on which he was riding pillion with his father. The accident took place GNT road near Retteri flyover. This is the second such fatality involving a city student in as many days.

The deceased, M Yogendra from Madan Maduraisamy Street, Perambur, was studying in Class 12 at Velammal Vidyashram, Surapet, said police. The victim’s father, Muralikrishnan was taking him to school, and as they approached Retteri flyover around 7.45 am, a truck hit the two-wheeler from behind. In the impact, Yogendra fell off the bike and suffered severe head injuries. He was rushed to Stanley Government hospital, but was declared brought dead. Muralikrishnan escaped unhurt. 

On information, Madhavaram traffic investigation police arrived at the spot and arrested the truck driver, Durgaprasad Yadav (39), hailing from Maharastra. The boy’s father Muralikrishnan, is a railway employee working at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Perambur. He also has a younger brother Govardhan, who is a Class 9 at Bala Vidyalaya, Perambur. 

A number of accidents proving fatal to school or college students, have been reported in the last two weeks. On July 31, Achita, a first-year BSc Visual Communication student was run over by a private bus in Kodambakkam. Exactly a week before that, on July 24, a Class 7 student was killed and her nine-year-old younger sister suffered grievous injuries, after the school van toppled near Vandalur. On the same day, a car that ran amok on Gandhi Mandapam Salai in Kotturpuram hit six pedestrians, including four schoolchildren - Vijayan (9), Sivaneswaran 12, Jothisivam (11) and Aravind kakkan (10) studying in AMM school, Kotturpuram.
