The accused, Ajaykumar Tiwari (42), was arrested in 2014 by Basin Bridge police and 29 kg of banned tobacco such as mawa was seized from him. Meanwhile, on July 27, the Flower Bazaar police spotted a man moving in a suspicious manner and approached him.

On seeing the police, he dropped his bag and fled the spot. The bag contained 100 packets of mawa tobacco kept ready to be sold. However, he was caught the next day near Memorial Hall during a vehicle check and seized ganja packets weighing about 1.3 kg and the scooter. Later, the police identified him as Ajaykumari Tiwari from Ayanavaram. He was arrested earlier in 2014.

Since, he continued with his business of illicit sale of banned tobacco products, Flower Bazaar inspector recommended detention of Ajaytiwari under Goondas Act and police commissioner A K Viswanathan approved it.

This is the first time that a mawa seller has been detained under Goondas Act.
