It will be a wet weekend in the city as the regional meteorological department on Friday forecast light to heavy rains for the next two days in Chennai and neighbouring areas.

On Friday, the city experienced intermittent rains after dusk. Even in the last two days also, various parts witnessed moderate to heavy rains in the evening.
According to a bulletin of weather department, the sky condition in the city will be generally cloudy. Rain or thundershowers is likely to occur in some areas during evening or night.
The situation will be similar in the districts also in the next two days.
The rains have come as a boon to many areas which were reeling under acute water scarcity.
Meanwhile, several districts across the state witnessed widespread downpour on Thursday. Srivilliputtur in Virudhunagar district recorded the highest rainfall of 8 cm rainfall.
The following is the amount (in cms) of rainfall recorded in various places (districts in the brackets) as per the readings ending at 8.30 am on Friday:
Neyveli (Cuddalore) - 7, Sankaridurg(Salem), Cuddalore (Cuddalore), Devala (The Nilgiris), Bhoothapandy (Kanyakumari) - 5 each, Vadipatti (Madurai), Ponneri (Tiruvallur), Bhavani (Erode), Mylady (Kanyakumari), Aravakurichi (Karur) - 4 each, Nilakottai (Dindigul), Kumarapalayam (Namakkal), Nagercoil (Kanyakumari), Panruti (Cuddalore), Surangudi (Thoothukudi)
