The smuggler was identified as Vishal (27), on whose name a first-class AC ticket had been booked. NCB personnel assisted by RPF men conducted a search on Vishal and found cocaine hidden in his shoulder bag. He was immediately arrested and taken to NCB headquarters for interrogation.

After the preliminary investigation, NCB sources said that Vishal had been working in small hotels and restaurants in Chennai for a while, before an African national approached him to smuggle the cocaine to New Delhi on the promise of a good job and money. However, officials are grilling him further to garner more details.

“The seized cocaine is in pure form and might have been sourced directly from the production belt in South America,” said an NCB official. They suspect that Vishal could be part of a South American drug cartel, which is a major source of cocaine. However, NCB officials ruled out that Vishal could have smuggled cocaine from Tirupur, where narcotics are reportedly smuggled in through Sri Lanka.
