TN police markets to benefit over a lakh: CM Edappadi K Palaniswami
A total of 6, 257 dwellings for police personnel were under construction in various parts of the state, while a total of 14,977 dwellings were constructed for police in the last six years, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced at a ceremony got up to present the Chief Minister’s medals under various categories for uniformed branches on the occasion of Independence Day on Tuesday.

Stating that the “own your house” scheme that was started at Melkottaiyur in Kanchipuram district would soon be extended to other districts, the CM said the Melakottaiyur scheme would have 2,673 houses built on 47.6 acres.
Referring to the TN police markets which were started in three locations in 2011, he said the markets had been extended to 47 locations which would benefit 1.02 lakh persons with another being planned for Kondithoppu in greater Chennai Corporation limits.
Lauding the work of the uniformed branches in all the crises faced by Chennai city and other parts of the state, when their selfless service had saved many lives, the Chief Minister said people were able to live in peace due to the work of the uniformed branches in ensuring that Tamil Nadu continued to be a haven of peace. Referring specifically to the fire in a private cloth shop in T Nagar, he said it was the fire department’s work which saved many lives.
Though a fireman died in harness when battling the flames caused by the cylinder blast in a private bakery in Kodungaiyur, people were not affected, he added. He later presented medals to 854 personnel in various categories.
