Chennai, many districts to receive rain for two more days: Meteorology department

An official from the Met Department said that a low-pressure area forming in north of Bay of Bengal is unlikely to have much impact on Tamil Nadu.

“The rainfall that Tamil Nadu is receiving is due to convective activity. The low pressure will affect Assam, West Bengal and coastal Andhra Pradesh. For the next 24 hours, rain or thunder showers are likely to occur at a few places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. As far as Chennai is concerned, rain or thundershowers will occur in some areas during the evening or night. The maximum temperature will be 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be 26 degrees Celsius,” said the official. 

Weather blogger Srikanth K, who blogs at Chennaiyil Oru Mazhai Kaalam (COMK), said that the low-pressure area will most likely move towards central India and Maharashtra. “This will start the process of monsoon revival in the West Coast, which is currently dry. The lack of rains in West Coast is due to the break in the monsoon period, during which Tamil Nadu ends up getting a good amount of rain. Tamil Nadu will get isolated rains for the next one of two days and then it will reduce as the monsoon picks up in the West Coast. The state has already seen excess rains in all districts except Kanniyakumari and the Nilgiris,” he said.
