Assam youth drowns off Elliots Beach

His body has been sent to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem.

A 24-year-old Assam youth who drowned at sea off the Elliots Beach on Friday was washed ashore at Marina Beach on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Gowrav Kumar, a BE graduate, who worked at an advertising firm and stayed at a hostel in Sholinganallur. Kumar, along with two friends, visited Besant Nagar on Friday evening and while they were swimming in the sea, a huge wave pulled all three of them in. While his friends escaped and managed to reach the shore with the help of fishermen, Kumar could not. Based on a complaint at Besant Nagar police station, a hunt was launched. Meanwhile, Manikandan who was walking on the Marina Beach on Saturday morning, found a man’s body and informed the police, who retrieved the body and identified him as Gowrav Kumar. His body has been sent to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem.
