Boy suffers shock after trying to take selfie atop train, critical

CHENNAI: Selfie craze has yet again proved costly. A Class 12 student who wanted to take a selfie atop a train in Tambaram to make his 18th birthday a memorable one instead suffered an electric shock. He has been admitted to Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital with 50 per cent burns, said police officials.

The victim, Dileepan, is the son of Railway official Marimuthu, residing at the staff quarters in East Tambaram. The incident took place on Saturday evening at the EMU car shed in West Tambaram.

Sources said that Dileepan, who was keen on uploading an intriguing photo on Facebook, went to the EMU car shed along with two of his friends. While his friends stood on the ground, Dileepan climbed a passenger car which was not attached to the engine.

However, when he reached the top, he suffered a shock due to radiation from the high-tension wire and was thrown off the carriage with severe burns.

His friends immediately rushed him in an autorickshaw to a private hospital, from where he was referred to the burn ward at KMC hospital.

However, his condition is stated to be highly critical. Tambaram Railway Police Force have registered a case and investigation is on.
