According to weathermen, a new low-pressure had formed on Monday between east central Bay of Bengal and north west Bay of Bengal. Further, a new trough running from South coastal Andhra Pradesh to Comorin (Kanniyakumari) area across north interior Tamil Nadu persisted and this could also bring rains to the western region.

A senior official in the RMC said, “Though July and August are peak monsoon months that play a crucial role in giving rainfall, the state has not recorded much rain. As far as Chennai region is concerned, there will be scattered rain with cloudy formations.”

A city-based weather blogger said, “West coast will see an active day in terms of rains and as a result a few places in the western region of Tamil Nadu are expected to get heavy rain for the next few days. It has been the trend in the past, when the West coast is active the East Coast stays quiet, so expect only a subdued thunderstorm activity over Tamil Nadu with possibly some isolated showers in parts of north Tamil Nadu and delta districts.”
