A senior police official told DT Next that they were yet to identify the car involved in the incident. “There are two sets of CCTV cameras on RG Salai. While the car involved in the accident has not been trapped in the first set of cameras, the second set of cameras seems to have caught footage of the vehicle. But, we are yet to zero in the vehicle,” the official said.

Meanwhile, police are also trying to get more details from Ramala, mother of the victim, who had spoken to the police. “But, she too claims not having seen the car involved before the collision and only heard a loud thud,” police said.

Ramala’s husband Balakrishnan is working at a hotel in the US, while Ramala and Phelinta lived in Kalikundram in Taramani.

They added that Ramala and Balakrishnan married five years ago after a period of courtship while studying in college.

This is the third accident in the year involving luxury cars.

Despite several attempts by the city police to curb speeding by luxury cars, mostly during weekends, accidents involving over speeding cars continue to happen with alarming regularity.
