2 students drown in Mahabalipuram sea; schoolboy dragged away by waves
A joy trip to Mamallapuram turned fatal for two engineering students, as they drowned in sea on Sunday.

The victims, Kalyan (18), Upendra (18), who are first-year engineering students of a private college in Padur, went to swim along with 10 other friends in the sea behind the shore temple.
A huge wave sucked the duo in and the friends’ attempt to save them went in vain.
A few hours later, Kalyan’s body was washed ashore while Upendra’s body was found near Tiger Caves, five kilometres from Mamallapuram, on Monday.
Mamallapuram police have registered a case and are investigating.
Schoolboy drowns in sea off Foreshore Estate
A 13-year-old boy drowned in sea near Foreshore Estate on Monday. The victim, Bharaneetharan, was studying in Class 7 at Santhome Higher Secondary School in Mylapore, said police. Bharaneetharan along with friends went to swim after participating in a temple festival in the locality.
Soon after Bharanneetharan drowned, others in the beach rescued him and tried to give him first-aid.
As it didn’t help, they rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Later, his body was sent to Royapettah Government Hospital for post-mortem.
Based on a complaint from the boy’s father Gunasekaran, Foreshore Estate police have registered a case and are investigating.
