NCB Zonal Director A Bruno, in a release, said that officials acted after receiving a tip-off about the 40-year-old Dilliah Edina arriving at the station with the ephedrine. The seized substance was factory sealed and concealed in 44 food tins.
According to the statement she made to the officials, she arrived in India on her maiden visit on August 8 and stayed in New Delhi. She boarded the Tamil Nadu express from Delhi. She wanted to board a flight to Zambia from Mumbai.
The seized contraband is worth Rs 1 crore in the illegal drug market. Ephedrine is illegally used to manufacture methamphetamine, which is sold mainly as a party drug. Further investigation is on to find out if Edina is part of a bigger network of drug peddlers operating within the country or elsewhere.
