Blood donation camp by Madras University

Rotary Club of Madras Besant Nagar along with the Department of Commerce, University of Madras, organised a blood donation camp recently at Versatile Business School, Egmore, Chennai.

Students from various colleges voluntarily participated with enthusiasm, deepened their social responsibility and made this event a big success. The donated blood will aid the children those who are afflicted with thalassemia, an infected autosomal recessive blood disorder that causes the weakening and destruction of red blood cells. Children afflicted with this disease need blood tansfusions once in 21 days. Voluntary Health Services will help the affected children to get benefited from the daily free transfusions provided by the blood bank.

The camp helped the community in gaining awareness about the disease. Dr R Shanthi, Secretary Madras University Commerce Alumni Association (MUCAA) thanked Dr DT Roshini Baba, Director of Versatile Business School, Thomas Jacob for their immense support in organising the event and she also acknowledged the overwhelming participation of the students from various colleges and alumni members of the department.

The President of Rotary Club RR Aroon Kumar, Secretary S. Venkataraman, Treasurer VN Krishnan, Dr J Balasubramaniam and Dr. V Mythily Medical Directors of Voluntary Health services and Dr R Shanthi, Secretary, Madras University Commerce Alumni Association (MUCAA), made their presence felt at the camp.
