The kin of the deceased, Munni alias Sabitha informed police that the victim was in a relationship with a man in her hometown Chettupattu. Since he did not attend the final rituals, police launched a hunt and detained Sadiq Hussain, the worker at a local mutton shop.

Though Sabitha was married to Abbas with whom she had two children, she got into an illicit relationship with Sadiq Hussain and ended her marriage as per the Islamic rites, said police after questioning the accused. Sadiq Hussain was not interested in getting married to Sabitha but agreed to her proposal half-heartedly.

On the day of murder, Sadiq and Sabitha went in search of houses in Potheri to live together after marriage and reached the station around 8 pm. A quarrel that broke out between them lasted till 12 midnight after which they decided to stay at the station itself to resume their house hunting the next day.

However, in the wee hours, Sadiq woke her up and took her to a secluded place, where he killed her by silting her throat. Police said that Sadiq Hussain will be remand her in judicial custody after due procedures.
