Chain snatcher caught during second bid

A bike-borne duo, who snatched a 10-sovereign chain from a 60-year-old woman in Anna Nagar, was chased and one of them got caught by passers-by when they attempted to rob another person in the same area on Monday night.

The incident took place around 7.45 pm near the Anna Adarsh School in Anna Nagar. The accused, who was the pillion rider, has been identified as Manikandan (27). The police have launched a hunt for the driver, whose identity they refused to reveal. 

The victim, Krishnakumari (60), was relieved of her 10-sovereign chain by a man, who ran and got onto a bike which was waiting at a distance. 

Anna Nagar police on patrol rushed to the spot upon information and while they were investigating, they got information that people caught one of the two men, while they attempted another chain snatching on the next street. 

He was later handed over to police. He admitted to having snatched Krishnakumari’s chain and 10 sovereigns were seized from him. Police are questioning him further to nab the other.

Professor’s house in Madipakkam burgled, 5 sovereigns missing 

Burglars broke open the house of a private college professor in Madipakkam and escaped with five sovereigns. The incident took place between 4.30 pm and 10.30 pm on Monday, when the professor Lalitha (40) and her husband Nandagopal (44) a private firm employee, were out for shopping.

When the couple returned, they found one of the windows of the house broken open with a cutting machine. When they checked the bureau, gold jewels weighing five sovereigns were missing. Based on their complaint, Madipakkam police have registered a case. Further investigation is on.
