Gang steals 150 laptops at knife point
In a meticulously planned heist, a five-member gang decamped with 150 laptops worth Rs50 lakh after threatening the truck driver and an IT firm’s representative at knife point near Padappai on Friday night.

Police said, the gang arriving in a car, intercepted the truck carrying the laptops from Chennai airport to an IT firm in Oragadam near Padappai. While three of the gang members ensured that the driver and the supervisor, Balasubramanian (45) and Rajaguru (26), present in the truck were kept silent at knife point, two others drove away the truck with the laptops. Subsequently, the gang after blindfolding the driver and the supervisor drove all the way to Kalpakkam, pushed them off the vehicle and escaped.
Meanwhile, the duo which drove away the truck with the laptops, abandoned the truck at Manimgalam near Padappai after shifting the laptops on to another truck and made good their escape. On a complaint from the driver and the supervisor at Kalpakkam, an alert was sounded following which the police could only trace the abandoned truck.
