The arrested has been identified as Arunraj (23) of Kilambakkam near Urapakkam, who is one of the six accused in the twin murder of history-sheeters — Kumaresan and Dayalan — in Guduvanchery in 2012.

Arunraj had been posing as a college student to escape the police scanner, said an official. At the time of arrest, he was travelling in a car with a few college students.

On Saturday night, six first-year students of the college went out on a night drive and stopped the car after noticing Arunraj with a bag. They got him into the car out of sympathy, said police. The police intercepted the car on RK Mutt Road and searched Arunraj’s bag on suspicion.

Since weapons were found in the bag, all seven were taken to the police station. During investigation, they found out that Arunraj is a murder-accused.

Though he was arrested in 2012, he came out on bail after 90 days and failed to appear for court proceedings. Eventually, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. Police are grilling Arunraj further for more information after which he will be produced in court.
