2 drown in Marina, body of one washed ashore in Neelankarai

Two youngsters who came to the Marina to celebrate a friend’s birthday drowned off the beach on Wednesday. One of the bodies was washed ashore near Neelankarai on Thursday, according to the police.

While the body that was washed ashore has been identified to be that of S Lokesh (19), who worked as a trolley puller at Express Avenue, the body of the other youth, D Rajasekar (17), is yet to be traced.

The two along with few others from Korukkupet reached Marina to celebrate their friend Wilson’s birthday. After cutting a cake on the beach in front of Vivekanandar Illam, Lokesh and Rajasekar went to wash their hands. All of a sudden, Lokesh was pulled in by a huge wave. Rajasekar’s attempt to save Lokesh went in vain. He too fell into the water and the bodies of both went missing. Three other friends tried to locate them but in vain. 

Meanwhile, Lokesh’s body washed ashore on Thursday near Neelankarai beach. Fisherman noticed the body and alerted Neelankarai police, who retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem.
