The visit by the Income Tax officials to the actor’s office was to verify non-deposit of TDS to the tune of Rs 51 lakh, which the production company had collected by deduction, but has so far not deposited in the government account.

“Neither the actor-producer nor the account books were available there. The employee in-charge there admitted to the non-deposit of the deducted tax and assured the TDS team that the amount will be deposited in 2 or 3 instalments. Summons were issued for attending office on Friday with account books and the team has since returned,” a senior income tax official said on Monday evening.

When the officials arrived, Vishal or his manager Murugaraj was not present. The staff alerted Murugaraj, who rushed to the office.
