Two workers of a private firm die of asphyxiation

Two workers of a private paper recycling company died of asphyxiation, when they were cleaning the chemical waste from a tank in the company premises at Kolapakkam, near Porur, on Sunday.

The deceased Sudharsan (24) and Chandran (25) belonged to Odisha, said police sources. They were working in a private company that exports raw materials for roof sheets, which is produced from wastes such as paper and sacks. 

On Sunday, the company’s owner Mohan (62) told Sudharsan and Chandran to clean a tank that stores chemical waste. 

Suddenly, they suffered a poisonous gas attack and died of asphyxiation on the spot. 

Later, police officials their bodies were recovered with the help of fire service personnel and sent for post-mortem to the nearby government hospital. Mangadu police have registered a case and arrested Mohan and two other supervisors of the firm. 

Labour welfare officials, who inspected the accident side said, that they had ordered the owners of the company to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased workers.
