Lioness dies post stillborn delivery

Zoo officials said the lioness named Mala, which delivered a stillborn male cub on Monday, died of Peritonitis (inflammation and rupture of the peritoneum, as a result of uterine puncture) as per the post-mortem report. 

Assistant director of the zoological park, Shanmugam, said that the lioness bled excessively post delivery of the cub. “Veterinarians tried to save the lioness, but she died,” he said.
