Siblings set up scholarship at IIT-M
Two former students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, have set up a scholarship in memory of their brother to fund the educational needs of an indigent student.

BS Krishna Prasad a Mechanical engineering graduate from the 1980 batch and BS Sampath, a Mechanical engineering graduate from the 1982 Batch and their sister have established the BS Ramapriya Memorial Scholarship, in memory of their brother Ramapriya, a Mechanical engineering student from 1974 to 1979, will be given to a deserving student from the institution.
Incidentally, BS Ramapriya was the batchmate of IIT Director, Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi.
Speaking of the scholarship, Ramamurthi said, “This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student of limited means to cover any shortfall in tuition and to provide a grant towards living expenses. To qualify, the student must be an undergraduate student in Mechanical engineering department, IIT Madras. The recipient will be chosen from eligible students by a committee consisting of the Office of Alumni Relations, IIT Madras and the sponsors.”
Krishna Prasad, while remembering his brother, said, “Ramapriya cared deeply about those less fortunate than himself. In that spirit, my brother Sampath, my sister Padma and I are pleased to sponsor this Scholarship. Chindanoor Vishwas is the first recipient.””
The Alumni Office of IIT Madras has a provision to provide scholarships to undergraduate students who face financial difficulties.
Students whose parents earn less than Rs. 1 lakh a year get a full tuition fee waiver from the institution.
