Woman set on fire by husband succumbs to injuries

Police said that Jayakumar and Anuradha often quarreled over the latter’s alleged illicit relationship.

A 37-year-old woman, who was set ablaze by her husband suspecting of infidelity in Kotturpuram on Monday, died at Kilapuk Medical College (KMC) Hospital on Thursday without responding to treatment. The deceased, Anuradha, had sustained over 50 per cent burns with severe injuries on her chest and abdomen.

Kotturpuram police, who had arrested her husband Jayakumar (39) and booked him under attempt-to-murder charges, changed the Section to 302 of the IPC. Jayakumar runs a trophy shop and the couple has two sons. Police said that Jayakumar and Anuradha often quarreled over the latter’s alleged illicit relationship. On Monday evening, during one such fight, Jayakumar set her ablaze.
