Sridhar’s driver Dinesh (32) was chased by three other men, who were also working with don Sridhar, in another car and hurled country bombs at him. Dinesh managed to drive away the car to Vishnu Kanchi Police station and surrender. Following the incident, the DIG immediately ordered the police personnel in the locality to hold vehicle checks to nab the attackers, along the Kancheepuram-Chennai road. While policemen began checking the vehicles at Walajahbad, Oragadam and Palur, no policemen were found at Manimangalam.

The top official who inspected the vehicle checks at different junctions questioned the Manimangalam inspector why her orders were not followed and found out that two SSIs, Bhaskar and Shanmugam, who were given the task were missing. Immediately, the DIG issued a memo to both the SSIs and transferred them to Armed Reserve duty.

Police sources said that Bhaskar and Shanmugam were promoted from head constables to sub-inspectors and were posted to Manimangalam as SSI for training.

Meanwhile, the hunt is on for the attackers. Dinesh said that the rival gang that attacked him was led by Dhanika, who was also Sridhar’s man. Police are searching for Dhanika and two other men and are also inquiring what led to the clash between them. While Dinesh escaped unhurt in the attack, his car was damaged.
