Hope EC holds a fair bypoll, says Vaiko

MDMK chief Vaiko said on Sunday that his party’s high-level committee was meeting next week to decide on the RK Nagar elections. “We will deliberate upon the issue and exchange our ideas before taking any decision,” he said.

Asked whether he would extend his support or would contest, the leader maintained that the decision would be taken during the meeting. He charged that the by-elections in the state since 1980s have become an affair of money-power.

“The prevalence of cashfor-vote strategy was unearthed during the I-T raids and names of several ministers figured as having distributed cash to the tune of Rs 89 crore. However, no action was taken on such a serious issue. I hope the Election Commission ensures that the polling happens in a free and fair manner,” he said. 

Vaiko also said that slain LTTE chief V Prabhakaran’s dream of separate Tamil Eelam would be fructified. He urged Tamils to vow to acheive it while observing ‘MaveerarNaal,’ on Monday.
