The victims had given money to Madhan of Vendhar Movies for MBBS/ MD admission in SRM institutions, who failed to arrange seats after the Supreme Court mandated NEET for medical admission.

The case which witnessed a number of twists and turns including the arrest of Madhan and his former boss TR Pachaimuthu, chancellor of SRM university, finally led high court to appoint Justice N Paul Vasantha Kumar, former chief justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court as court commissioner for disbursement of claims made by the complainants. It may be noted that Pachaimuthu and Madhan were directed to deposit Rs 75 crore and Rs 10 crore respectively by court as bail conditions.

The SC in September quashed criminal proceedings against Pachaimuthu with conditions related to disbursement of money to the claimants. The court commissioner after verification proceedings adjudicated 141 claims in favour of the claimants and Rs 87.61 crore was disbursed to victims, a press release from the court commissioners said on Wednesday.

The victims included wife of a man, who went missing while travelling in the missing Malaysian Airlines, few years ago. She had paid Rs 50 lakh for admission for her son from the insurance claim received due to her missing husband, the press release said adding that she had become emotional and thanked the High Court for profusely for refunding the amount.
