BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday led a road blockade at RK Nagar demanding cancellation of the bypoll and alleged that the Election Commission had not taken steps to prevent cash distribution in the constituency. Blocking the road at New Washermenpet Main Road along with BJP candidate Karu Nagarajan and other cadre, she told reporters that the parties are distributing tokens for gifts.
She alleged that the bypoll is not being conducted in a proper manner. “Parties like the BJP had entered the bypoll based on the EC’s promise of ensuring free and fair polls. There is no meaning in conducting the bypoll if they are not held fairly,” she said. The BJP leader’s demand comes amid allegations by DMK working president MK Stalin and VCK leader Thol Thirumavalvan that there is a conspiracy to cancel the bypoll.
