While police initially thought that the girl K Pramila of Vannanthurai, Besant Nagar, might have committed suicide after her father Kannan yelled at her for using mobile phone for long hours, they tracked the accused, Prashanth from T Nagar, with the help of her call history and messages in her phone.
Prashanth has been working as a technician at an automobile firm. Police said that Prashanth was introduced to victim K Pramila (21) through a mutual friend a year ago and both became friends on Facebook and exchanged mobile numbers.
While they were friends for eight months, Prashanth started avoiding her in October after he fell for another girl. When Pramila confronted him, he allegedly verbally abused her and asked her not to follow him.
Dejected over this, Pramila hanged self at her house on October 18. Prashanth has been booked under Section 306 of the IPC and remanded in judicial custody.
