The students, who suffered injuries on their hands, back and other body parts, complained about the incident to their parents when they returned home, following which, all the seven children were rushed to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital. While two of them, who were badly bruised, had to be admitted as inpatients, the others were sent home, after their injuries were treated.

As news spread, a group of parents rushed to the school and demanded action against teacher Godavari, who allegedly whacked the students using a stick. The affected parents also filed a complaint with the local police demanding arrest of the concerned teacher.

Sources said that talks were on between the school management and the parents, and mediated by the police. While the parents insisted that police register a case, the school management did not want to.

Kancheepuram district Chief Education Officer, Thiruvalaselvi, when contacted about the issue, claimed that she was not aware of the issue yet. “I will get a formal report from the school principal and take suitable action against any teacher involved in the act,” she said.
